Vetco Gray to Expand Service Base in Angola
Vetco Gray are to expand their service base in Angola as part of their planned Angolan development.
David Lamont, President Eastern Region Operations and Subsea Systems, said: "As current investment demonstrates, we are committed to the ongoing development of our local capabilities in Angola – both in personnel and facilities to provide complete in-country service and support during the installation and field-life of subsea field developments".
Due to the expansion there will be a requirement for additional personnel, to include 10 graduates from the Angolan Institute of Petroleum who are about to embark on a three-year, in house, technical training programme which will include extended assignments, both overseas and in Angola. This is in addition to the planned employment of further Angolan Engineering graduates into Vetco Gray's Monitored Professional Development Scheme designed to achieve Chartered status with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and the planned direct employment of almost 40 Angolan workshop and field technicians by Vetco Gray's Cabinda operation. These steps will ensure the availability of a trained and knowledgeable local workforce.
The planned expansion will significantly increase the workshop size and capability to perform testing, fabrication and tubular welding, as well as continue providing engineering support, inspection, repair, testing and inventory management.
