Jacobs Awarded Agrium Contract

A Jacobs Engineering Group subsidiary has received a contract from Agrium Inc. to provide engineering, procurement, and construction management services for Agrium's Easy, Efficient, Environmentally Smart Nitrogen (ESN(R)) project. The ESN(R) project uses innovative technology to convert the urea produced at Agrium's facility in Carseland, Alberta, Canada, into a proprietary coated fertilizer. Jacobs successfully completed the conceptual phases of this project.

ESN(R), or Smart Nitrogen, has a unique semi-permeable polymer coating that allows water to enter the urea granule and dissolve the nitrogen. The nitrogen release rate is controlled by soil temperature, which similarly determines plant growth and nutrient demand. Therefore, ESN(R) technology provides for a better matching of nutrient availability in the soil with plant nutrient requirements. The result is increased productivity per pound of nitrogen, providing an economic advantage for growers, while reducing nitrogen loss to the environment.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Greg Landry stated, "We are proud to advance our relationship with Agrium through a full-service EPCM approach. Agrium is a leading global producer and marketer of agricultural nutrients and industrial products and services.
