Weir Techna Win Contract for Australian Water Treatment Plant
Weir Techna Australia, part of the Techna Division of The Weir Group PLC in association with Weir Envig, has been awarded multi-million dollar contract for the design, construction and commissioning of a Water Treatment Plant at Jabiru in Northern Territory, Australia. The project is subject to close environmental scrutiny because Jabiru is located within the World Heritage Site, Kakadu National Park, famous for its natural wetlands, extensive wildlife, waterfalls and aboriginal cultural history. Water at the Ranger Operation requiring treatment is generated from two sources.
The low quality Process water circuit comprises water that has been used in the processing plant or accumulates in the tailings disposal areas and pipeline corridors.
The "Pond" water circuit comprises waters that have the potential to become contaminated by contact with mineralised material such as the current open-pit mine, ore stockpiles, some areas of the processing plant and roadways
The plant will have the ability to treat 7000m3/day (293m3/h) of pond water or a 50:50 blend of process and pond water to a standard such that the final treated water after wetland polishing will be suitable for release with no detrimental impact to the receiving environment.
The treatment trains include cold lime softening, ferric flocculation treatment for uranium removal, clarification, ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO).
Weir Envig is providing process expertise with project management and procurement being sourced from Weir Techna Australia.
This order follows our success at BHP Billiton Ravensthorpe Nickel Mine in Western Australia where Weir Envig, Weir Entropie and Weir Services have combined their expertise to design, construct and commission a 7.2ML/d Desalination and Ion Exchange Plant.
