Aker Kvaerner Chemetics Win Contract For Acid Plant
The Chemetics divison of Aker Kvaerner Canada Inc. has been awarded a contract by JSC Kazakhmys Corporation to build a sulphuric acid plant in Balkhash Kazakhstan. The lump sum contract, valued in excess of USD34m, includes plant design and supply of Chemetics' proprietary and other specialized equipment and materials. It also includes erection and commissioning technical assistance throughout the project.
The new contract includes a 3850 metric tonnes per day, single train metallurgical sulphuric acid plant. The project will be managed from Chemetics' office in Vancouver, Canada, where it will also carry out the majority of the engineering.
JSC Kazakhmys is a vertically integrated copper producer operating several mines and concentrators throughout Kazakhstan plus two world scale smelters in Balkhash and Zhezkazgan, producing in excess of 400 thousand tonnes of copper cathodes annually.
